HELP! I've been looking on google, youtube and everywhere to find my answer. But i can't. If someone can help?

I was wondering... I have a Wi-Fi only iPad and I just jailbroke it, but my friend says he has 3g (Verizon) on his wi-fi ipod touch! He jailbroke it to! But how did he get 3g on it without tethering a mobile device to it?? Pleas tell me so i can get 3g on my ipad!
