I need internet help with a tablet?

I'm looking to buy the Archos 101 Internet Tablet, but I'm only 13, so paying for internet wouldn't exactly be easy without help. I'm under the impression that you don't have to pay if you just connect to your houses Wifi, but is there a monthly fee for using your internet connection anywhere? Tethering is not an option, by the way.
