Does the wifi tether feature come with every Android phone?

I just found out my Android phone has a wifi tether feature...just go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & portable hotspot > and there it is....I have Android 2.2 (the one on the T-Mobile G2)...mine is rooted so I just wanna know if its a stock feature or if it got added when I rooted
