My Sole treadmill won't slow down, does anyone know why?

I have a Sole treadmill and it accelerates fine. I cannot slow it down though and have to use the the tether cord to get it to stop running. Does anyone know why it does this, and is this something I can fix on my own? Thanks for any help!
